Scheduling, Dispatching and Routing: What is the Difference?

Many people treat these words as interchangeable with each other. Depending how you look at the work being done, they are correct. On the other hand, one could look at the work so that:

Scheduling determines when the work is to be complete.

Dispatching determines who does the work.

Routing sets the order the work is completed do reduce travel or time that is not productive.

Let’s look at each of these three activities and see how they are handled.
