Quality Of Life

Imagine going into a store and asking a sales person, "How much quality of life does this cost?" Quality of life is a combination of hours you work, stress level you work under, time and effort others spend helping your business run, degree of control of daily events, feeling of success, etc. All these pieces add up to quality of life. As an example, let’s consider the purchase of an electric garage door opener. Clearly, you can open and close a garage door by hand. Why spend $200.00 to buy and install this equipment? The reason is that once you have an electric garage door opener it becomes more of a necessity than a luxury because it improves the quality of your life. Other items that fall into this category are:

• Power lawn mowers

• Convenience items like ice cube makers

• Business information systems, i.e., computers

• Recreational items like boats

Each of these require you spend time, money and initially add additional stress to your life. If you manage to adapt to these changes, the net result is that the quality of the rest of your life improves. If you do not adapt, then the boat turns into a lawn ornament that raises your stress level every time you see it.
