You can see that delivering and picking up units is a significant portion of your time and operational expenses. The way you recover these expenses is by charging your customers. Some of the common practices are as follows:
Delivery charge. There is a charge for unit delivery and one month’s rental. The pickup is built into monthly rental/service price.
Two month’s minimum billing. A long term rental must be for a minimum of two months. This allows you to recover the expenses associated with the delivery and pickup through the monthly rent/services.
Early pickup charge. If a unit is rented for less than three months there is an early pickup charge.
Specials. This is usually short term rental, i.e., a few days or a week. Delivery and pickup a built into the higher rates.
The selection of the best method depends upon you customers and your competition. Just remember that free delivery is only free to your customer. It cost significant money and time to deliver and pickup units.
